Yellow Submarine Vintage Trailor

One thing I never expected to see emerging from a mobile home is a potbelly pig. But here I am chatting with the owner of a sleek throwback trailer on a gravelly lot in New Mexico, and Queen Maxine, the aforementioned swine, comes trotting down a ramp to her food bowl.
She doesn’t come with the listing, I’m afraid.
Maxine is just one of the lovable charms inside a cozy trailer park in El Prado on the north end of Taos where Amy, a sweet-hearted school teacher, has racked up over a thousand 5-star reviews for her vintage trailers on Airbnb. And after my stay, it’s easy to see why.
Driving through the surrounding neighborhood makes you feel a bit like a local. Amy delivers directions post-booking to her darling compound that you’d never be able to find otherwise. After meandering down a curvy backroad lined with coyote fencing, it’s very much a "look for a stack of tires, and you’re here" set of instructions.
That’s not a bad thing. Even with the other vintage campers on the lot, there’s a comfortable sense of privacy here. Each unit is spaced apart and has its own sitting area and fire pit for relaxing under star-pinned skies.
I stayed in the 1954 Silver Dome travel trailer nicknamed the Yellow Submarine. If it’s just you and another, I’d say it’s perfectly spacious.
I’m continually evolving my expectations around how much (or little) space I need, especially for shorter trips. The interior is packed with fun discoveries—think Jimmy Hendrix art hidden with the toilet paper—and thoughtful amenities like hand-crafted foot warmers. ❤️

Amy is not alone in the vintage trailer market here in Taos. Hotel Luna Mystica opened not long after she set up her El Prado encampment and is located right next to Taos Mesa Brewery. It’s literally stumbling distance from the brewery, so there’s that convenience, I suppose. But the nightly fees for the trailers at Hotel Luna Mystica are pretty much double the cost of Amy’s nightly fee, which really makes the Yellow Submarine vintage trailer a lot more appealing to savings-conscious travelers like us. 🤓
